Ruby Ahluwalia, founder of Sanjeevni – Life Beyond Cancer
Contrary to the common belief that conquering cancer is the ultimate challenge for a woman, it is the uphill task of piecing together her disturbed life and the lives of her family that often goes unnoticed and rarely talked about.
I experienced this as a mother and wife and want to incorporate the social and emotional reconstruction in every patient’s road to recovery. All we need for this is to educate patients and their families.
During my battle with cancer, I tried to educate myself about how to improve my immunity. When I spoke to doctors, including some from Harvard University, I realised that poor immunity did not figure prominently in their list of reasons for cancer. They only talked about obesity, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and genetic reasons.
Thus began my journey, as an innovator in the art of using one’s breath to boost immunity, especially in cancer patients.
When I was undergoing treatment for cancer in 2009, I started using my body as a laboratory. As a trained yoga instructor, I tried breath training as an immunity booster during cancer treatment.
I applied these techniques of breath, diet, and research to increase my immunity. Today, I have concluded that cancer cells grow only in that part of the body that suffers from toxicity or lack of fresh oxygen, which can be reversed by practicing breathing.
Nadi Shuddhi and Bhramari pranayama are two techniques that I advocate for breath practice for channelising positive energy and oxygen towards our body parts.
How can we heal ourselves come out of our self-created pits and discover our infinite potential is the purpose of telling my own story. For this, I have curated specific programs for the wholistic healing of people.
It was on my road to recovery that I realised the importance of education and empowerment for cancer patients. In the middle of countless appointments, painful treatments, and moments of despair, I also experienced incredible strength, resilience, and the unwavering support of loved ones.
My mission in life is that every cancer patient can win the battle against cancer and be provided with skills to use this experience as an opportunity to live an enriched and productive life.
We do not offer monetary help or medicines to cancer patients but want to assist them in physical, psychological, and spiritual healing, covering the whole cycle of a patient’s cure and focusing on mental constructs.
I do not want anyone to be in pain for no reason. My mission is to be able to create such programs for people which give long-term innovative solutions and empower them.
